Manifesto
Cities need to respond to their times.
Every territory shapes the distribution of opportunities. It determines the distance to school. The time spent travelling. Access to water, work, culture, information and nature. It often determines how far a person can go.
But life does not happen in separate parts.
What affects a person runs through the city, the environment, services, relationships and the decisions made about the place where they live.
Yet responses remain fragmented. Resources, knowledge and decisions do not always reach those who need them most. And those who face the challenges do not always take part in the choices that shape their own territory.
Instituto Urbanidades exists to change this relationship.
We do not believe in ready-made solutions that arrive and then leave.
We work with communities, local organizations, public authorities, universities, businesses and funders to bring together what is disconnected and strengthen the capacity to act in territories.
Principles
- 01
Listening
Before proposing solutions, understand people, stories, contexts, conflicts and possibilities.
- 02
Collaboration
Bring different forms of knowledge and stakeholders together, because no territorial transformation happens in isolation.
- 03
Plurality
Recognize different cultures, experiences, territories and ways of life as part of developing responses.
- 04
Rigor
Take care with research, strategy, implementation, language and the details that turn an idea into concrete action.
People
Different backgrounds brought together by a shared interest in understanding and transforming territories.
